Motivation can require a little push, but when does that push become a shove? It might seem like accepting yourself as you are would mean just being lazy or giving up responsibility. On the contrary, I would like to promote the idea that through radical self-acceptance we gain more motivation and elevated self-esteem. By accepting the parts of ourselves that we consider shameful (shadow aspects), we free up all the energy tha we have been using to hide these things and overcompensate for them. You may have even stopped feeling shame for a certain aspect and yet still find yourself engaging in the same overcompensatory behavioural mechanisms.
