Social anxiety, work stress, performance pressure, financial worry, family expectations… These are just some of things that activate our nervous systems on a daily basis. If we think of the nervous system as an elastic band, imagine that each stressor puts a little more pressure on that band. When the band is stretched tight we have less space for the next thing life may throw at us. Our memory is not as sharp and we become less resilient.
